Last week in Saint-Brieuc!

Bonjour !

Few pictures for the beginning of this week, as students have been working hard preparing for a busy last few days in Saint-Brieuc. 

On Monday, they continued preparing the program magazine and the farewell show. The program magazine has now been sent to print, and students and host families will receive a copy at the show. The rehearsals for the show have been going super well. Students are very engaged and I think host families will be thrilled by what they have in store for them! Some also took some pictures while rehearsing.

In addition to working on the magazine and on the farwell show, we also rehearsed La Marseillaise, the French national anthem. Our visit to the town hall is scheduled for Thursday evening, and students will be singing both La Marseillaise and the Star-Spangled Banner. I caught a sneak peek of it as they were practicing.


Then, we went to the movies! We took the bus to the theater as a group and then watched Inside Out 2 in French. Animation movies are often easier to follow in a foreign language, and most students had seen the first one, so it felt like a great option for our movie afternoon. Students also got to buy French popcorn (no butter and mostly sweet!) and they loved the movie! Some of them (me included) even shed a tear towards the end...





 On Tuesday, we had our last afternoon in the gymnase (and students finally completed a successful volleyball alphabet!), and today they kept rehearsing for the show and the town hall visit. Once again, some took a few pictures!

We have a lot planned for the end of this week (and I'll have a lot of pictures to share!). The big event tomorrow is the visit to the town hall, and Friday will be our last day in Saint-Brieuc. We'll complete the final exams, before having one last rehearsal in the afternoon. Then, the farewell show will take place on our last evening here. And finally, on Saturday, it'll be time for goodbyes and the trip to Paris...!

First day in France!

 Sunday, June 9th, 11:30am Bonjour from Saint-Brieuc!  We arrived yesterday in Saint-Brieuc at around 7pm local time (1pm EST), after a long bus ride. Students and Shannon landed at around 10:30 in Paris, and were welcomed by Laëtitia, our onsite coordinator, her dad, who is part of one of the host families, and myself (Corentin). Students took a quick picture with the Saumur group who landed at the same time, and took time to stretch their legs after the transatlantic flight. We then said goodbye to the other group and boarded our bus, headed west to Saint-Brieuc. At first the excitement of being in France (and a game of Uno) kept some of the students awake, at least until our lunch stop at around 1pm local time. Speaking only French was a challenge at first, but they quickly got used to it! The first few hours in the country were full of students finding round-about ways to describe specific words to express themselves. For lunch, Laetitia and her dad had prepared sandwiches...

Settling in!

 Wednesday, June 12th, 6:30pm  Bonjour les familles américaines ! The first few days have been intense and full of discoveries, but students are settling in nicely! On Sunday, students stayed with their host families to rest after the long trip to France. We learned on Monday that most of them went on various adventures, including exploring town and going to the beach. We received reports that, despite it being a sunny day, the Channel was still too cold for most to take a swim...! Monday was the first day of classes, and we started with the start-of-the-program exam:           Once exams were over, we organized activities for students to discuss their host families. Final Blog Post & Photo Deposit

Wednesday, July 10th, 1am (Bloomington time) Bonjour ! I just wanted to give you a final post to give you some information and share some final pictures. First, thank you to all the families for your continued support throughout the program. I apologize for not getting a chance to speak to all of you tonight- the return to Indianapolis is always a bit hectic and it was a long trip, but we are really appreciative of your help! I also wanted to thank our students again. Shannon, Laëtitia, and I are incredibly grateful to have spent these few weeks with you and we couldn't be more proud of all of you. You've shown commitment, resiliency, adaptability, respect, openness, and your overall conduct reflects extremely positively on yourselves and the program as a whole.
