Bonjour tout le monde !
Last
weekend, students stayed with their host families. However, some of
them met on Sunday to spend the day on l'Île de Bréhat, and I was
invited to join them!
We met bright and early to catch the 9:40 boat at l'Arcouest, near Paimpol.
The boat ride took us around the island before finally setting foot on it.
We
then walked around the beautiful island. Fortunately the weather was
quite pleasant, although a bit cloudy- they say Bréhat has its own climate and it definitely
felt true!
Then, it was time for a quick lunch, and back to visiting the island!
Finally, we had to take the boat back to the mainland and say goodbye to Bréhat!
On Monday, we had out second program day trip! We left quite early again, first to Dinan, which is about an hour and fifteen minutes east of Saint-Brieuc.
We took a nice group picture in front of the basilica (Go Hoosiers!) and then students had some free time to roam the streets of Dinan (and buy souvenirs!).
We then took a short walk to the castle, and students had a little under an hour to visit on their own.
After our visit of the castle, we walked around Dinan some more, and found a spot to have lunch.
After lunch, we headed to Saint-Malo, about 20 minutes north of Dinan. Saint-Malo is one of my personal favorites; it's a fortified seaside town, and on a beautiful day like Monday, it's an amazing sight!
We visited the ramparts as a group, and took some beautiful pictures, and then students had over two hours to explore! Some chose to enjoy some of the fabulous food options while others just wandered around. A few even decided to go for a swim in the (very cold) Channel!
We met back at la Porte Saint-Vincent at 4:45 to head back to Saint-Brieuc. Once again, it was a day full of beautiful sights and long walks, so a lot of the students were ready for a break!
On Tuesday, we had classes as usual, and the afternoon was reserved for support and success groups, as well as physical activity. Once again, volleyball, basketball, and walking around the lycée were students' favorite activities. It was very sunny so we were able to spend a few hours outside!
Today, after morning classes, we headed to Langueux, like we did last week. This time we met with some teens and pre-teens for the afternoon, in a local youth club. We first played a few card and board games.
Then, local folks taught us les Boules Bretonnes. As a non-Breton native, it felt to me like a local variant of la Pétanque, which is played all over France. Both are very slow games, and I think one of the objectives is to enjoy being in the sun together!
The youth club also hosts a local radio station, which we had the opportunity to visit and practice our radio voices.
We finished the day with some snacks and drinks!
Tomorrow afternoon, we will be visiting la Tour de Cesson and WW2 bunkers near Saint-Brieuc, and then it will be the end of week 3 already! Time flies- we only have 9 days left in Saint-Brieuc... and next week promises to be a very busy one before heading to Paris!
